Workshops and Programmes

The Heat and the City project team have helped develop and deliver a number of practitioner-oriented workshops.

UK District Energy Vanguards Network

The Heat and the City project team have collaborated with Michael King to develop this UK-wide network whose core consists of local authorities and housing associations actively developing district heating systems.

The Vanguards’ Network facilitates communication between members, shares good practice, addresses common problems, and brings core members together with representatives of central and devolved government, industry, universities and third sector organisations. The network also produces a monthly newsletter on UK and international district energy developments. The Network is open to all UK local authorities and housing associations who are developing district energy. For more information, please contact dave.hawkey@ed.ac.uk.

STRATEGO project

The Stratego project, funded by Intelligent Energy Europe and the Scottish Government, is set up to accelerate district heating uptake in countries across Europe. The project works across 12 European countries, including Scotland, aiming to aid the development of effective heating and cooling plans and build capacities to deliver district heating on the ground. Ruth Bush has been seconded from the Institute of Governance (Edinburgh University) to the Scottish Government to run the Scottish contribution to Stratego. Ruth works closely alongside the rest of the Heat and the City team.
